Peter Banks, Managing Director of Rudding Park, North Yorkshire will attend The AHC for the first time this autumn. We talk to him about his view of the hotel industry and why it's taken him so long to join The AHC party!
|Q1. Briefly explain your role |
PB: Chief cook and bottle washer at Rudding Park! Seriously, operation of £15m multi market hospitality business, planning and implementation of new schemes with design team – current scheme £9.5m spa. Responsible for 250 staff and achieving financial targets to owners and the bank!
Q2. What is your view of the UK hotel industry at the moment?
PB: Innovative, fast improving industry. Fun, exciting and challenging!
Q3. What are the current challenges within the hospitality industry that you are facing?
Internet and multi channels to market
Staffing with current “work/life" balance issues vs guest expectation
Build and land cost vs guest price expectation
Q4. Have you attended The AHC previously?
PB: No, looking forward to my first experience later this year. I will be joining a panel session discussing asset management and how relatively small adjustments can make a significant positive impact on bottom line. As we see acquisition activity start to slow down across the industry, there will be a greater emphasis on operational effectiveness to achieve returns and this is the basis of our session. The conference has a strong reputation as being an event where hoteliers come together to network and learn and I am looking forward to being part of it.
