A hardy team of hotel property experts started their 350km cycle from London to Manchester this morning.
Raising funds for Springboard UK, the team left London earlier today and are aiming to arrive in Manchester tomorrow evening. After a well earned rest there will be a formal arrival in the Hilton reception around 10.30am to coincide with the start of the AHC 2015.
The cycle ride hopes to raise much needed funds for Springboard UK whose invaluable work involves promoting careers in the hospitality, leisure and tourism industry and in doing so attracts new talent to address skills shortages within the industry. The charity also helps young people achieve their potential and nurtures unemployed people of any age into work. It helps alleviate poverty by supporting disadvantaged and underprivileged people into sustainable employment within hospitality, leisure and tourism.
Commenting on the cycling challenge, Michael Marfurt of CBRE Hotels said: “This ride has been two years in the planning, has involved many hours training, early starts and weekend rides and we are now all eager to get on the road. We have been overwhelmed by the industry’s support to date and you’ll see all those companies who have kindly sponsored us featured on our cycling jersey. The ride is going to be tough but we’re looking forward to working as a team and completing the challenge.
Aleksander Johansen, also of CBRE Hotels said: “The aim is to welcome other cyclists from across the industry next year to join what will hopefully become an annual event, alongside The AHC, for the hotel community. Come and chat to one of us at the conference if you are interesting in joining us next year”.
